Some of my favorite blogs to read are done anonymously. They allow the blogger to talk more candidly about things than normal social etiquette would allow. For example, Anonymous Lawyer
makes a great read because he talks frankly about the way things "really" are in a big time law firm. He may even get a book deal out of the thing. On the other hand is The Good Husband
(who also may get a book deal). While the subject matter is not all hearts and roses, it is heartfelt and provides an honesty about a failing marriage and relationship that we can really connect with, perhaps because we sympathize or because, more importantly, we empathize with what's going on.
Being outside the parameters of socially acceptable "nice talk" allows these bloggers to get at the truth of being human, to expose our innards, and to let other people know that what they think privately may be something they thought themselves but never had the opportunity or the chutzpa to bring up in normal conversation. To these bloggers I say, keep on truckin'. It may not be pretty, but it's truth, pure and simple.
